How to start the moving day
Next are a few tips and advices what to do at the moving day. There is no doubt – the greatest tip is to make a schedule or at least a small simple list, because there are plenty of things that one can easily forget. For example:
1 – Check and double check the condition of the removal boxes while waiting for the arrival of the moving van.
Inspect every box whether it is properly closed/sealed. Carefully wrap, sort and prepare for the move all the objects without boxes. Make some last minute changes like protecting the fragile objects with extra wrapping or with heavy-duty tape.
2 – Put all your belongings and boxes to the nearest place where to avoid extra distance.
This will reduce the chance for some issues during the handling of the biggest and heaviest items. The best opt is to place the boxes right next to the parking lot where the van can stop for loading.
3 – Make a small special box with special items. You can include expensive items like jewelries, as well as something to eat during the trip. Or else, include all the important phone numbers, the coordinates of the new house, a map of the road with highlights of the rest stops, etc.
4 – Once the removal van arrives – make a comprehensive tour around the house with the packing team so they can see the true scale and size of the boxes they should handle with.
5 – A sketching of the floor plan offers another great advantage. Highlight the exact spots of every box and large object, and draw the dimensions of the doors, the width of the corridors, the locations of the stairs, etc. Give the sketching to the movers so they will know exactly where to load or unload the big heavy objects.
6 – A quick inspection of the route to the front door is indispensable, because the route for handling big or heavy objects should be secured. Remove all the fallen branches, leaves, rocks and dirt. If possible, choose the shortest route between the van and the door of the house.
7 – Gently ask the neighbors to free more parking space in front of the house at the moving day. A great advice is to do it the day before the moving day, for just in case. It would more comfortable for the giant van to stop as close as possible to the house and it will definitely need more parking space than a typical car.
8 – You should know when is the last moment when you can cancel your booking without the need for paying extra fees. It might be a couple of hours prior to the arrival of the van or maybe a couple of days before the moving day. In all cases, it is good to know this detail for just in case.
9 – Check out the weather forecast for the moving day. Check out the hourly forecast, because all the activities from the loading to the unloading of the removal van usually take a good long day. Yet it all depends on the distance to the new house and on the relevancy of the weather forecast, but it always a great advice.
10 – When loading the bags and boxes in the van – try to load them in such a way that to better center the weight of the van. This is especially important when renting only a van and you have to do everything else. Lowering the gravity point of the objects inside the boxes is another great tip, but you have to do it while packing your belongings.
